My energetic, botanical abstract paintings explore connections to my garden
and the natural world. My process begins from the ground up- feeding the soil,
planting the seeds, and growing the roots and shoots. Through that process I
begin to loose myself in the space between the petals, leaves, and vines. My
spirit ignites, encouraging connection and stimulating my imagination. My view
becomes more than what I see, it’s filled with the possibilities of what could be.
I paint bodies of work that are based on the simple pleasure of recording my
observations of surrounding landscapes from memory and experience. I don’t
seek to replicate nature, instead my art process wants to deconstruct it and to
find a new reality. I look to seasonality and plant characteristics; how light and
shadow, wind and water play an important role in those ever-changing
environments. Using gestures, overlapping forms, colors and textures my
organic shapes attempt to create a framework for a landscape focused on
capturing and expressing the vibrant and joyful energy found in the Pacific
Northwest. Unearthing those energies through deconstruction and abstraction
allows for layers of interpretation, ultimately giving the viewer an invitation to
dive into tiny moments where everything resides.
